The modder’s experiment with the Nintendo Switch, increasing its RAM capacity from 4 GB to 8 GB, has sparked significant discussions online as rumors about the features of Nintendo Switch 2 continue.
Nintendo Switch Modification: Running PC Games with 8 GB RAM
YouTube user Naga tested 13 different PC games on the modified Nintendo Switch. Equipped with a 2.6 GHz CPU and 1.26 GHz GPU, the device, according to Naga’s findings, managed to run many PC games quite well despite lower resolutions, thanks to the extra RAM. Here are some of the results from the games tested:
- Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade: Steady 30 FPS
- Stray: Steady 30 FPS
- Fallout New Vegas: Up to 60 FPS indoors
This experiment highlighted the significant impact of increased RAM on the console’s performance. Naga’s modified system even successfully ran Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at 4K resolution.
According to recent rumors, Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to come with a full 12 GB of RAM. This will consist of two 6 GB LPDDR5 modules operating at 7500 MT/s. Compared to the current Switch’s 4 GB RAM, this represents a substantial leap in performance.
Such modifications could be intriguing for current Nintendo Switch owners. However, with the impending release of Switch 2, waiting for the new model might be the preferred choice.
